New Jersey law treats sex crimes very seriously, and if someone is accused and found guilty, the consequences could be very severe. Two New Jersey men may be facing these consequences after a local prosecutor declared they were to be arraigned on a series of charges, the most serious of which is aggravated sexual assault.

The two men, both residents of Mount Laurel, are accused of sexually assaulting an incapacitated woman. In addition to the aggravated sexual assault charge, the men are to be arraigned on charges of kidnapping, invasion of privacy and drug offenses.

According to sources, the men took the intoxicated 18-year-old woman to a hotel on Route 73 in Mount Laurel last December. Police were informed when one of the guests saw the men and the woman and notified hotel management. The defendants are currently charged with possession of the drug lorazepam, but it’s not clear whether they gave the drug to the alleged victim.

An attorney representing one of the men said that the encounter was consensual, and indicated that the alleged victim had a previous relationship with the man.

These types of severe charges can damage a person’s reputation and apply a social taboo that is difficult to escape. When faced with accusations related to sexual assault, it is important to employ a criminal defense attorney who can help defend the rights of the accused. A person who has been charged with such crimes should be sure to gather the best information on the potential criminal defense options which may be available.
