In an unusual twist two drivers were arrested for driving while intoxicated in the same car. The incident began during a search of a rest stop in search of a suspect being sought by the New Jersey police. It was while the police were searching the rest stop that they maintain they saw two vehicles drive past them on the highway travelling at a high rate of speed.

The police officers chased the cars as they weaved through traffic and were eventually able to safely stop both cars. The driver of the first car stopped was issued several traffic tickets. In the events that followed the stop of the second car two separate individuals were charged with drunk driving.

According to local law enforcement officials when they stopped the second car a 48-year-old man was driving and a 42-year-old man was in the passenger seat. But when an officer stepped away from the car momentarily the men apparently switched seats. At the same time the police allege that a full cup of beer was thrown out of the passenger window almost hitting a police officer and his patrol car.

The police allege that after the men switched seats 42-year-old man drove the car further up the highway before pulling over on the shoulder. After the police caught up with the car again they administered field sobriety tests on both drivers. Both drivers were subsequently arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. According to local news sources both drivers have previous convictions for drunk driving.
