How We Fight Sex Crime Charges Against You

Our lawyers understand what is at stake for you. New Jersey sex crime laws are severe. The stigma surrounding the outcome of a sexual assault case can dramatically impact the rest of your life. A conviction can affect your employment, where you live and your relationships. If you are facing a sex crime charge, or are even under investigation but not charged, you simply cannot afford to go it alone.

Our goal is to protect you from the charges against you. The lawyers at the Law Offices of John J. Zarych are well-versed in sex crime defense. We know what is necessary to build an effective defense and where to look to uncover the evidence we need.

We research every case meticulously. We probe into the circumstance of your arrest. How were you identified? Was there adequate probable cause? What is the strength of forensic evidence that supports the State’s case? Does the alleged victim have a history of making false complaints of sexual assault? If a child is involved was the child properly interviewed? Is the child competent to testify?

After investigating your case, we meet with you to review your best defense options. Throughout our representation of you, our lawyers will be accessible and respond quickly to any questions or concerns you may have.

We Can Help You Avoid:

Megan’s Law Registration

In New Jersey, persons convicted of most sex offenses are required to register under Megan’s Law. That means that they must register with certain public agencies. They must also notify the appropriate law enforcement agencies before they change residences and verify their addresses periodically. Failure to comply with sex offender registration is a crime in and of itself. Many people make mistakes regarding registration and find themselves back in court facing a new charge.

Community Supervision for Life

If a person is convicted of certain sex offenses that occurred before January 14, 2004, the court will impose a special sentence of Community Supervision for Life (CSL). This means that the convicted person “will be supervised for at least 15 years as if on parole, and subject to conditions appropriate to protect the public and foster rehabilitation, including, but not limited to, counseling and other restrictions, which may include restrictions on where you can live, work and travel.” If you violate a condition of Community Supervision for Life, you can be sentenced to additional time in prison. You can be ordered to submit to expensive sex offender treatment at you own expense.

Parole Supervision for Life

If a person is convicted of certain sex offenses that occurred on or after January 14, 2004, the court will impose a special sentence of Parole Supervision for Life. This means that the convicted person “will be supervised by the Division of Parole for at least 15 years, and be subject to provisions and conditions of parole, including conditions appropriate to protect the public and foster rehabilitation, such as, but not limited to, counseling and other restrictions, which may include restriction on where you can live, work and travel.” If you violate a condition of parole you can be sentenced to additional time in prison. You may also be ordered to submit to costly sex offender treatment at your own expense.

Internet Posting

Some convicted sex offenders are required to have their photos, home addresses and identifying information listed on the Internet and made publicly available.
